NOTICES
Happy New Year to you all.
Well done to all those who represented The Flint & Denbigh Hunt Branch of The Pony Club in team events at Area or Friendly competitions last year. A special mention to Sarah Duffy & Laura Cocking for doing so well at the Open Horse Trials Championships, the polo Crosse teams for winning at the championships and also to the junior games team. Two Novice Show Jumping Teams qualified for the Novice Championships & one of the teams were placed 3rd. This was fantastic.
Teams will be entered in all disciplines this year. If you would like to be considered for any of them please get in touch with the team trainer of each discipline.
The musical ride display was an unforgettable experience for all concerned and I was extremely proud of being associated with it.
Thank you to everyone who has organised a rally, fun day, or helped in someway, putting up jumps, clearing them away, at camp, the list goes on. We do need you all. If you would like to get more involved organising or helping in any way please ring me. It is a great way to learn more and give a little back to the pony club. Any new ideas for rallies or competitions again please give me a ring. Bethan

This is your opportunity to find out more about what has been going on within the branch last year, and what is planned for 2009, and get any questions answered.
Ex F&D PC member – Sian Wynne Morris will give a talk about her experiences of competing at Burghley Horse Trials 2008.
Rallies
Just a few points: Please make sure you contact the rally organiser if you have booked on to a rally and then unable to attend.
Parents – please do not get too involved in the rallies. The rides the children are put in are very carefully thought out and all our instructors are very experienced. Please feel free to discuss your child’s progress at the end of the rally, but please do not interrupt or get involved with the rally unless you are called for by the instructor.
We do like you to see your child’s progress but at a distance. (This also applies at Camp)
Members should ensure that they are mounted and ready for the instructor at the time the rally is due to start.
Members should familiarise themselves with the Rule Books (available from Iona) Especially the Hat & Stirrup Rules.
Hat Rule
For cross country riding (over fences 0.80m high and above) including eventing, tetrathlon, hunter trials & pony racing, whether it be tests, rallies or training, a jockey skull cap is worn. It is also strongly recommended that a jockey skull cap is worn for cross country riding over lower fences.
Hunting certificate
Those who wish to take their hunting certificate for next season and will be 14 years old by 1st Sept 2009, please contact Lucy Reed asap
Mounted games
Good Luck to 4 members of F & D mounted games teams who are going down to the Welsh Team trial in Builth Wells on 8th March – Eleri Jones, Mari Edwards, Anna Hickey-Roberts and Sam Major.
Polite Note to Parents
The committee members give up a lot of their time for the Pony Club on a voluntary basis, organising training sessions and attending competitions and as such should not be expected to look after and tidy up after children or ponies. A polite note to parents, please:-
- clean up any mess your pony makes in the car park (or in the arena at training sessions)
- don’t leave your pony/horse tied up unattended outside the trailer/lorry
- help with equipment(moving equipment/put up jumps etc)

If you have emails that you wish Iona to send out to all members, she will now be sending these out on a Tuesday only, any that are sent after this, will be held over till the next week.
Dressage to Music ...
... is becoming more popular nationally as it tends to be a little more audience friendly that pure dressage. You make up your own movements and arrange some music that fits. It is very satisfying to ride walk, trot and canter to suitable music and sometimes the ponies rise to the occasion too. The first Dressage-to-Music rally was held in early Dec. in order to practice for Llysfaen show (unfortunately cancelled). It would be great if the F & D could get this discipline off the ground and be represented at some competitions – more training can be arranged if enough of you are interested – Contact Meg Green megww@aol.comCLASSIFIED

Horse Trials Training
This year Area 5 is not running Horse Trials Training, so we are going to do our own within the Branch. This will take place at Forest Gate Farm, Delamere Road, Kinglsley, Cheshire WA6 6LU and at Kelsall Horse Trials. The Instructor will be Mr Richard Carruthers for both venues.
These training sessions are for members who would like to event this season and will be looking to represent the Branch at the Area Horse Trials Novice, Intermediate and Open Competition.
To be eligible for:
- Novice training you must be jumping 2ft 9in
- Intermediate training jumping 3ft 3in
- Open Training jumping 3ft 6in
These sessions are hard work for both hose and rider so it is very important that both are fit and up to the above standard.
Other Dates:
Showjumping @ Forest Gate farm are- Saturday 28th March and
- Saturday 11th April (afternoon). £10 per session
- Wednesday 27th May (afternoon). £15 per session.
